The CT Environmental Health Association and DPH are partnering to present the 2024 Soils Training Workshop.  We have made considerable changes to the classroom and field portions of the traditional soils training and will be offering several new training opportunities.

This year’s training workshop includes classroom presentations on:

  • Introduction to Soils
  • Soils Testing and Designs for Difficult Sites
  • Soils Testing Documentation, Site Field Staking and Elevations, and
  • Soils Testing for DEEP Jurisdiction Sites.

The workshop Field Station Activities include:

  • Site Investigation and System Design – Start to Finish
  • Site Elevations/Field Staking
  • Ledge outcroppings, erosion control during and after construction, percolation test demonstration and DEEP site considerations
  • Groundwater identification and monitoring
  • Soil texturing

The program is designed to provide essential soils training for local health inspectors certified to inspect subsurface sewage disposal systems, with an emphasis on proper field identification of soils and soil restrictions, recognizing site and landscape features impacting soil conditions and preparation of an accurate soil and site evaluation form for a subsurface sewage disposal system.
